My name is Rick Nugent and I am proud to be commencing as the Victoria Police Games Federation President. As a long time runner, swimmer and tennis player, I am passionate about the camaraderie, mateship and health benefits that participating in sport can bring. I would first like to thank Andrew Crisp for his passion and leadership in this role – these are big shoes to fill and I look forward to working with VPGF Committee in continuing the great success the Victoria Police and Emergency Services Games have become.
We all know the benefits of an active lifestyle and the positive impact it can have on our physical and mental health and wellbeing. Finding time for family, friends, sport or exercise is a challenge we all face, but it is particularly important for those working in the emergency management sector. The Victoria Police and Emergency Services Games are about more than competition, they are an opportunity for us to come together, to prioritise our own physical and mental health and invest in the friendships that characterise the spirit of the Games.
The 2018 Victoria Police and Emergency Services Games were a huge success with over 4,500 registered entries across our participating agencies. A lot of hard work goes into producing the Games and they could not take place without the contribution of all of our participating agency representatives, Sports Coordinators and our incredible volunteers – thank you for making the 2018 Games our most successful yet!
We now turn our minds to the 2019 Games and already the support has been fantastic, with many of our loyal sponsors continuing our valued partnerships for the 2019 Games. APS Benefits have been a long-time sponsor and these Games mark the 19th consecutive year they have partnered with us. BankVic have provided incredible support for the Games since joining and are more directly involved than ever before. We are also continuing our invaluable relationship with Transurban who provide great promotion across Melbourne with their billboards and light show on the Bolte Bridge each year. We are pleased to have secured another three year partnership with our web developers, FUSESport who have done a fantastic job on our online registration portal and their continued development of the Games website will ensure that up to date information is available for all events and activities throughout the nine days of competition.
We are so grateful for the sustained support of all of our sponsors and thank them for their investment in the 2019 Games.
To our participating agency CEOs, Senior Executives and leaders, thank you for continuing to champion your employees to prioritise their health and wellbeing by taking part in the Games. Finally, the Games are nothing without the diverse range of competitors coming together from our participating agencies. I encourage you all to get involved and join in the fun at the 2019 Games - whether that is as a competitor or volunteering to help at one of the many events planned. Grab a friend or get a team together and start preparing for what is sure to be the best Games yet!
